What’s The Best Exercise Bike For You?

My name is Ben, and I run a website called BestHealthGear. Today I’ll be discussing a few of the different types of exercise bikes currently on the market today.

One may perceive the exercise bike as a one-dimensional piece of workout equipment. It gets the job done in terms of being an effective cardiovascular exercise, but the common notion is that you sit there and pedal away for a prolonged period of time.

With that said, many out there probably do not know that there are several types of exercise bike machines that can be used for various purposes. In this article, we will be delving deeper into them, as you add more knowledge that could help supplement your workout regimen.

Recumbent Bike

This is the kind of exercise bike that is best-suited for beginners, those who are literally trying out this piece of equipment for the first time. The recumbent stationary bike does not have the same realistic feel as the upright ones that are used in gyms. The recumbent bike is built more for a less strenuous workout because its seat is built like a chair with an actual backrest.

As mentioned, the recumbent bike works great for beginners who have just started to incorporate working out into their lives. With that said, it is very well suited for home use, as it also takes up very little space given its small frame. Recumbent bikes are comfortable and easy to use, but if you are an avid gym goer, you may want to go for the upright stationary bike.

Upright Stationary Bike

Unlike the recumbent bike, the upright stationary bike is built like an actual bicycle that people use on the road. This provides the realism and feel that a cyclist is accustomed to, which can also turn out to be a more laborious and intense workout that many also prefer.

Beginners can also make use of an upright stationary bike, but it would require more effort for them to exert. But overall, it can provide a great workout and it is an alternative to treadmills.  This has the added benefit of giving your knees a little bit of rest.

Spin Bike

The indoor cycling bike, more popularly known as the spin bike that is used for spin classes in gyms, is another type of exercise bike that you can use. Similar to the upright stationary bike, the spin bike is built to recreate the feeling of being on an actual bicycle. The difference, however, is that the handlebars are more parallel to the seat, making it more comfortable when sitting for a prolonged period of time.

The small frame of the spin bike also makes it very convenient to stow away, as it takes up very little space. Keep in mind, you can make your workout more intense by using fitness sandbags. You can get quality workouts using this machine, even within the comfort of your own home.

If you happen to be looking for a piece of workout equipment that will give the same intensity as running, but is also less strenuous on the knees, then this exercise bike would be perfect for you. It is just a matter of finding which one of the three, whether the recumbent, spin bike or upright bike, would fit your needs best.  Know what you want to achieve with your exercise bike routine first and make your decision from there.
